With such an expansive model range, it is impossible for Mercedes-Benz to have a physical product available in every showroom for customers to view.
By carefully choosing showroom stock, dealers can show a wide range of colours and interior trims, but not necessarily the customer’s preferred model/derivative/colour/trim combination. Mercedes-Benz wanted to find a way to help customers visualise the colour/trim/option combinations available for each model and minimise lost sales opportunities from visitors leaving because they couldn’t see what they wanted.
Our solution was to develop what became the first car configurator system, called the Interactive Brochure – a stand-alone touch-screen kiosk installed in each UK Mercedes-Benz dealership. Visitors could select a car from the model menu, choose wheels, paint, interior trim and options – their choices could then be saved for use in a more detailed discussion when a salesperson became available.
